Makeup artist in Telavi
Telavi is 90 km from Tbilisi but takes close to two hours, because the road crosses the Gombori pass. Four kilometres further than Gori, and almost twice the drive — which is why Telavi bookings are planned around the road, and why an early-morning wedding ceremony here usually means arriving the night before.

The Gombori pass decides the schedule
The short route to Telavi climbs to about 1,600 metres and descends the other side. It is a proper mountain road: fine in summer, slower in rain, and occasionally closed in winter, when the alternative through Sagarejo adds around forty minutes.
In practice that means a two-hour drive that cannot be compressed. For a ceremony at ten in the morning, leaving Tbilisi at six is theoretically possible and practically a bad plan — one lorry on the pass and the whole morning is gone.
For weddings, the artist usually travels the day before. It costs an overnight stay and it removes the single largest risk in a Kakheti booking.
Harvest season is the busy season
Rtveli — the grape harvest, through September and October — is when Kakheti fills up. Wine estates run weddings and events almost continuously through those two months, and the region's accommodation goes with them.
That has a practical consequence for booking: September and October Saturdays in Kakheti are taken months ahead, and so is anywhere to stay the night before. A Telavi wedding booked six weeks out is harder to arrange than a Tbilisi one booked six days out.
It also means the light is beautiful and the days are warm but no longer hot, which is genuinely the best combination of the year for outdoor photography here.
Outdoor ceremonies, and what the weather does
Kakheti weddings happen outside — in vineyards, on terraces, in estate gardens with the Alazani valley behind them. That is the reason people marry here and it is the main technical challenge of the work.
Open sun is the first factor. Full sun for several hours breaks down a base faster than anything indoors, so long-wear products are the starting point rather than an upgrade.
Wind is the second and it is underestimated. The valley gets a steady wind in the afternoon, which dries the eyes, moves hair across a finished face, and turns anything not properly set into a problem. A finished face outdoors in Kakheti needs to be set harder than the same face in a Tbilisi restaurant.
- Open sun — long-wear base, not a standard one
- Afternoon wind — everything set firmly, hair plan agreed with the stylist
- Dry air and dust in late summer — more moisturising preparation, not less
- Cool evenings in autumn — the temperature drops sharply after sunset
The night before, or the morning of
This is the decision that shapes the cost and the risk, and it is worth making deliberately.
Arriving the night before means the artist is already there, the start can be as early as the day needs, and the pass is no longer a variable. It adds an overnight stay to the quote.
Arriving on the morning works when the ceremony is in the afternoon and the weather is settled. For a morning ceremony, in autumn, over a mountain pass, it is not a risk worth taking for what it saves.
Price and booking
Makeup starts at 150 GEL. Travel to Telavi is quoted by distance, with the overnight stay stated separately if the day requires one, and both are fixed before you book.
Tell us the venue, not just the town. Telavi weddings are frequently at estates outside the city — Tsinandali, Napareuli, Kvareli and the Lopota valley are all within thirty to fifty minutes further, and that changes the plan.
For a September or October wedding, write as early as you can. Those dates are the first to go every year.
Frequently asked questions
- How long is the drive from Tbilisi to Telavi?
- About two hours for 90 km, because the road crosses the Gombori pass. In winter, when the pass closes, the route through Sagarejo adds around forty minutes.
- Do you stay overnight for a Telavi wedding?
- Usually yes. It removes the mountain pass as a risk and allows an early start. The overnight is stated separately in the quote.
- Does makeup hold for an outdoor vineyard wedding?
- With long-wear products chosen for it, yes. Open sun and the afternoon valley wind are the two factors, and both are planned for rather than worked around on the day.
- When should I book a Kakheti wedding?
- As early as possible for September and October. Harvest season fills the region's Saturdays and its accommodation months in advance.
