Makeup artist in Gudauri

Gudauri is Georgia's highest ski resort, sitting at roughly 2,200 metres, 120 km and two hours from Tbilisi. Most weddings here happen in winter, and high-altitude winter is the harshest environment for makeup that exists anywhere in the country.

Two hours from Tbilisi — weather permitting

Gudauri is closer than Kazbegi: 120 km, about two hours on the Georgian Military Road. That makes driving up the same morning genuinely realistic, and an overnight stay is not automatically required.

The one variable is weather. The resort sits below the Jvari Pass, but heavy snow still slows the road. If the ceremony is in the morning and the forecast is poor, we will recommend arriving the previous evening — and we will say so when the booking is made, not on the morning of the drive.

Altitude plus hotel heating: doubly dry

High-altitude air is dry to begin with. Hotel heating removes more moisture from the room, and the room is where preparation happens, often for several hours.

For that reason we keep powder products to a minimum in Gudauri and work with cream textures instead. In dry air powder emphasises skin texture; a cream base stays even under the same conditions. This is a choice made for this specific place, not a general rule.

Snow reflects — the light comes from below

Winter light in Gudauri behaves unusually. Snow bounces sunlight upward and lights the face from underneath, which inverts the assumption every contour and shadow is normally built on.

In practice, shadows go on more softly and highlighter goes on more cautiously: what looks moderate in a hotel mirror reads far stronger against snow. Ultraviolet exposure at this altitude is also roughly double what it is at sea level, so the base is applied without a high SPF to keep flashback out of the photographs.

Winter weddings and corporate events

Gudauri's season runs from December to April, and that is when most weddings take place. Saturdays book out early — at the hotels themselves as much as with us.

Beyond weddings, Gudauri sees a steady stream of corporate events and photoshoots. For a group, the timetable is worked out in advance: roughly one hour per person, back to back.

Price and booking

Makeup starts at 150 GEL, with travel quoted separately. If the weather calls for arriving the night before, that is agreed in advance and the figure does not move afterwards.

Send the date, the ceremony or shoot time, the hotel and the number of people. You will get one total and a schedule that already carries a weather buffer.

Frequently asked questions

How long is the drive to Gudauri?
Two hours, 120 km on the Georgian Military Road. Snow slows the route, so winter schedules carry an extra buffer.
Is high-altitude makeup done differently?
Yes. At 2,200 metres the air is dry and hotel heating makes it drier, so we reduce powder products and work with cream textures, which stay even under those conditions.
Does snow cause problems for photographs?
Snow gives beautiful light, but it also lights the face from below. Shadows therefore go on more softly and highlighter more sparingly than a hotel mirror would suggest.
How many people can you do in one day?
Roughly one hour per person. The exact number depends on the ceremony time — tell us how many of you there are and we will send the schedule in advance.
