Gudauri sits on an open ridge where wind is constant. Bakuriani sits in a basin and the pine forest shelters it. That is a practical difference, not a geographical footnote.

Hair and veils behave far more calmly here, and outdoor photography is much easier. Setting is still done, but without the aggression that 2,200 metres of open wind demands.

The basin has a second effect in summer: the pine forest keeps the air cool when the lowlands are near forty degrees. That makes a July or August shoot considerably more comfortable here than in Borjomi or Tbilisi.

The altitude is lower than Gudauri's, but the air is still dry and, in winter, freezing. Hotel heating reduces the humidity in the room further.

So preparation begins with skincare and powder products are kept to a minimum: in dry air powder emphasises skin texture, while a cream base stays even.

Snow bounces sunlight up into the face, here as at any ski resort: shadows need to go on more softly and highlighter more sparingly than a hotel mirror suggests.

Ultraviolet at this altitude is stronger than at sea level, so the base is applied without a high SPF — otherwise it flashes back white under a camera flash. Sun protection goes on separately, before makeup.

The season runs December to March and Saturdays book out early. In summer Bakuriani hosts conferences and photoshoots instead.

180 km takes up to three hours, and snow slows it. For a morning ceremony we recommend arriving the previous evening.

Makeup starts at 150 GEL. Travel, and an overnight stay when the schedule needs one, are quoted separately and agreed in advance.
