Before anything is applied

The first step is four questions: where you are going, at what hour, how long it runs, and whether there will be a photographer. Those four answers decide the product selection.

Skin comes next: any sensitivity, allergy or recent treatment. This is not a formality — skin behaves differently after a treatment, and knowing that in advance prevents a reaction on a day that matters.

Skin preparation

The work begins with preparing the skin rather than with foundation. This stage is short but it decides how long everything after it survives.

If skin is dry, or conversely oily, preparation changes accordingly. That is why we ask about your usual routine — it tells us what condition the skin is in today rather than in general.

Checking under two lights

Before finishing, the result is checked under two different lights: indoors and in daylight. This is the step people skip most often at home.

The reason is practical: a base border and a shade mismatch frequently do not show under one light. Two lights catch the two most common problems there are.

What to say at the start

Three things belong at the beginning rather than the end: what you usually dislike about your own makeup, what you are sensitive to, and how strong you want it.

For the last one, a photograph is the most useful answer — not as a template but as a direction. The word "natural" means completely different things to two different people, and photographs skip the argument.
