Airbrush makeup
Airbrush makeup is foundation applied as a fine mist by compressed air rather than by brush or sponge. The practical difference is that the product sits on the skin in an extremely thin, even layer instead of being pressed into it — which makes it hold longer and photograph smoother, and also makes it the wrong choice for some skin.

What actually changes
A brush or sponge moves product across the skin and into it. An airbrush deposits thousands of tiny droplets onto the surface without touching it at all.
Two things follow from that. The layer is thinner than any hand application can achieve, so it reads as skin rather than as coverage even when it is covering a lot. And because nothing is dragged, the base does not disturb whatever is underneath — which is why airbrush is the standard for work over colour correction.
It also means no physical contact with the face. For clients with reactive or broken skin, that matters more than the finish.
Where it clearly wins
Long days. A silicone-based airbrush foundation applied correctly is still intact after eight to ten hours without touch-ups, which is the main reason it dominates wedding work.
Photography and video. The thin, even layer has no visible edges, no brush texture and no sponge stipple, and under flash or 4K video those are exactly the things that show.
Heat and humidity. Because the layer is thin and sits on the surface, there is less product to move when the skin releases moisture — which matters at a summer wedding in Batumi far more than at one in Tbilisi in October.
- Weddings and long events — holds eight to ten hours
- Photo and video shoots — no visible texture under close lighting
- Humid or hot conditions — less product to travel
- Over colour correction — nothing underneath gets disturbed
Where a hand-applied base is better
Dry, flaking or textured skin. Airbrush sits on the surface, so it follows texture rather than filling it. A flaking patch photographed under airbrush is still a flaking patch, sometimes more visible than before. A cream base pressed in with a sponge does better here.
Mature skin with fine lines, for the same reason — a hand-applied cream can be worked into the surface, and a mist cannot.
Anyone who wants a very warm, dewy, skin-like finish. Airbrush finishes are naturally more matte and more uniform, and uniformity is not always the goal.
And small corrections. An airbrush is not a precision tool for one blemish; that is still a brush.
How the appointment differs
Skin preparation matters more, not less. Because the product will not be pressed into the skin, anything dry or flaking must be dealt with first — exfoliation a day or two before, and proper moisturising on the day.
The application itself is quick, around ten to fifteen minutes for a full base, but the full appointment still runs about an hour because eyes, brows and lips are done by hand as usual.
Touching the face afterwards is the one habit to break. The layer is thin enough that a hand resting on the chin will lift it, which a pressed-in base would survive.
Price and how to decide
Makeup starts at 150 GEL and the exact figure depends on the occasion and the travel involved; the price is quoted before you book and does not change afterwards.
The honest way to decide is by the day rather than by the technique. If it is long, photographed, hot, or all three, airbrush is worth it. If it is an ordinary evening, or if your skin is dry or textured right now, a hand-applied base will look better and cost the same.
For a wedding the decision is best made at the trial, on your actual skin, in daylight — not from a description of either method.
Frequently asked questions
- Does airbrush makeup last longer?
- Yes. A silicone-based airbrush foundation typically holds eight to ten hours without touch-ups, which is why it is standard for weddings and long shoots.
- Is airbrush good for dry skin?
- Usually not. It sits on the surface and follows texture rather than filling it, so flaking shows. A cream base pressed in with a sponge works better on dry skin.
- Does airbrush look heavy?
- The opposite. The layer is thinner than any hand application, so it reads as skin even when covering a lot. The finish is more matte and more uniform.
- How long does an airbrush appointment take?
- The base takes ten to fifteen minutes, but the full appointment is still about an hour — eyes, brows and lips are done by hand as usual.
